Beacon is a Western Australian based mineral exploration company focused on exploring and developing quality Australian assets.
The Company is targeting gold and base metal mineralisation in Queensland and
gold, nickel and uranium mineralisation in Western Australia.
Beacon has been actively exploring its two projects since listing in Late 2006, and will continue this aggressive exploration approach.
At the Greenvale Project in Northern Queensland, Beacon is exploring for gold and base metals. The project is located 200 kilometres west of Townsville, and within a 25 kilometre radius of a number of existing copper-base metal mines or advanced prospects.
The company is targeting several styles of mineralisation at Greenvale including;
- Intrusive-related copper-molybdenum-silver-gold (Cockie Prospect)
- Shear hosted gold mineralisation (Steam Engine)
- VMS-style Zn-Au (Galah Dam)
Exploration at Greenvale will consist of focused drilling with the aim of quickly identifying prospects that may potentially host mineral resources.
Beacons second project, the Barlee Gold Project, is located 200 kilometres north of Southern Cross in Western Australia. Sporadic exploration over the past 10 years has detected significant gold anomalies within a 3 kilometre structural corridor where bedrock protrudes through shallow soil cover. It is estimated that as much as 70% of the project lies under transported cover which has hindered previous surface exploration.
The Company has developed an exploration model based on the characteristics of known structurally controlled mesothermal gold deposits in the Southern Cross area. Drilling by the company has confirmed the model and identified several priority drill targets. The Directors consider the Barlee Gold Project to be highly prospective for gold, and will focus on quickly delineating areas that have the potential to contain shallow gold resources. Geological settings prospective for nickel and uranium also exist within the project area, and the company also plans to explore these areas as part of a regional programme.
